Medieval Bushidan

() National Museum of Japanese History

The National Museum of Japanese History and Folklore(民俗) is located in Sakura City, Chiba Prefecture. At Funabashi on the Chuo Sobu Line, change to the Keisei Line and arrive at Sakura. About 2 hours from Koganei. It takes time, but it's a good distance to think about history.

The abbreviation(略称) "Rekihaku" is a history museum that exhibits Japanese history, folklore, and archeology(考古学), but its larger role is research and the role of an educational institution(機関). Mr. Hotta is located at the Sakura Castle ruin, which is 100,000 goku, and from the Meiji era, the Army Sakura Regiment(連隊) was placed. Sakura Castle is surrounded by earthwork(土塁)s and there are no stone walls. It is a castle ruin with beautiful greenery.

I went to see the special exhibition of "Medieval Bushidan" being held here. Medieval samurai are known by names such as Minamoto no Yoritomo, Yoshitsune, Hojo Tokimune, and Ashikaga Takauji, but here we focus on samurai other than fighting. In the exhibition, the samurai are brutal(残忍な), but it is said that the samurai gather the hearts(慈悲の心) of the lords(領主) by donating(寄進) to temples and shrines. The two() heavenly() statues() (Jikokuten and Zochoten) of Entsuji Temple donated by the medieval samurai Hizen(肥前) Chiba were wonderful Buddha statues. In addition, the fact that Mr. Masuda of Shimane engaged in maritime(海上) trade(交易) was exhibited, and it can be seen that not only the brave(勇敢) samurai but also they ruled(支配) the area.
