今年もすごい暑さだ。こんなに暑いときにオリンピック！コロナウイルス感染はますます拡大している。歓迎されないオリンピックとなった。１９６４年は１０月だった。晴天の下、すがすがしかった。なんで秋にやらないの？ スポンサー抜きで良いじゃない、と誰もが思うことだ。
前回のオリンピックを振り返ると良い時期ではなかった。前年には事件・事故が多かった。北アルプスで大学生１３人死亡、吉展ちゃん誘拐・殺人事件、狭山女子高生殺人事件、八丈島航空機墜落１９人死亡、沖縄で船転覆１１２人死亡、鶴見電車事故で１６１人が死亡、三井三池炭鉱爆発事故４５８人死亡。その上、アメリカとつながった衛星放送によってもたらされたのはケネディ大統領暗殺だった。暗い年だった。
１９６４年にも、大分空港事故２０人死亡、新潟地震２６人死亡、品川倉庫火災１９人死亡、沖縄首里幼女誘拐殺人、自衛隊ヘリ墜落8人死亡、参列者を載せた自衛隊ヘリ墜落6人死亡など、前の年より少なくなったがあまり良い年ではなかった。オリンピックに向けてのインフラ整備のニュースがかろうじて明るいニュースだった。日本武道館開館、東海道新幹線開業などである。一方世界では、トンキン湾事件が起き、ベトナム戦争が目前となっていた。
私は高校３年生、受験の時期だった。いわゆる戦後生まれの「団塊の世代」が大学受験となり、「受験戦争」という言葉が生まれた。１９６４年２月には英語スピーチコンテスト、２０人ぐらいが発表した。私は「School customs」と、学校が自由でのんびりしていることを話した記憶がある。受験勉強もあくせくした記憶は少ない。３年生の５月は遠足で埼玉県長瀞へ行った。オリンピック記念「日本古美術展」東京国立博物館見学、秋の体育祭の応援で「オリンピック音頭」を踊った。「……オリンピックの顔と顔、それととんと、ととんと顔と顔」今でも口ずさんでしまう。文化祭ではなぜか「国定忠治」のチャンバラものに出演。１１月には、多摩湖畔での１０キロマラソン大会、苦しかった。ゴール直前での女子の声援に急に元気になった記憶がある。
オリンピックの記憶は女子バレーの優勝、体操での活躍、アベベの優勝と円谷健闘。それから閉会式、整然とした行進でなく、各国入り乱れ、肩を組んだり楽しいものだった。
あのころのオリンピックのやり方でいいじゃないか。

Looking back on the last Olympics, it was not a good time. There were many incidents and accidents in the previous year. 13 college students died in the Northern Alps, Yoshinobu-chan kidnapped and murdered, Sayama high school girl murder, 19 people died in Hachijojima aircraft crashed ,112 died in ship overturned in Okinawa, 161 died in Tsurumi train accident, Mitsui Miike coal mine explosion 458 people died in the accident. What's more, the assassination of President Kennedy was brought about by satellite broadcasting connected to the United States. It was a dark year.
In 1964, 20 people died in the Oita Airport accident, 26 people died in the Niigata earthquake, 19 people died in the Shinagawa warehouse fire, the murder of a young girl in Okinawa Shuri, 8 people died in the self-defense force helicopter crash, and 6 people died in the self-defense force helicopter crash with attendees. It was less than the previous year, but it was not a very good year. The news of infrastructure development for the Olympics was barely bright news. The opening of the Nippon Budokan and the opening of the Tokaido Shinkansen. Meanwhile, in the world, the Gulf of Tonkin incident occurred and the Vietnam War was imminent.
I was High school third grade, and it was time to take the exam. The so-called "baby boomer generation" born after the war became a university entrance exam, and the word "examination war" was coined.
In February 1964, about 20 students announced High school English speech contest. I remember talking about "School customs" the school is free and laid-back. I don't have much memory of studying for entrance exams. In May of the third grade, I went to Nagatoro, Saitama prefecture for an excursion. In Autumn I visited the Tokyo National Museum at the Olympic Memorial "Japanese Antique Art Exhibition" And we danced "Olympic Ondo" to the support of the autumn sports festival.
