Dream Diary Log

The night before last, I had a suffocating dream. A white bridal veil-like cloth was twisting around my head and it looked like wax candy as it twisted tighter and tighter - I was watching myself as it happened: I was floating above my bed, the effervescence felt ghostly. And the night before that, I remembered it when I woke up... but I voluntarily chose to forget the dream and not write it down, so it must have been bad.

"Frog Genius and the End of the World"

Last night, the dream was much more enjoyable. It made me happy. It felt like I was immersed in this insanely captivating, yet intensely strange double-feature film! It was an avant-garde masterpiece, the kind of hidden gem film that you only find once in a blue moon!

The parallel parts of the movie reminded me a lot of Evangelion's "Death and Rebirth"! The protagonist of the story was a quirky, genius girl dressed in all-white robes and she had a sentient frog hat that didn't say anything but glooped and gasped and stuck out its long, pink tongue!

A memorable part of the dream is when the girl jumps off of a cliff's edge and in mid-air, she is enveloped by an amniotic type of liquid barrier and the screen is suddenly bathed in a deep fuchsia color before transforming into a bright, blood-red. The surroundings of the dream are composed of bleak, liminal spaces but the girl is very cute, holding herself with the characteristics of a childish and inquisitive, anime-like ingénue.

Interpretation: Since the girl is wearing all white, is she dead? Is the weird place that she traversing the afterlife perhaps? Does the amniotic fluid symbolize rebirth? It rolled the credits after that part so I'm not exactly sure... not sure what the frog is supposed to represent either... the modern meaning of a frog is fertility and rebirth but I know in the middle ages, it had a darker meaning. The duality of meanings is like the two parts of the film and life / death, the light / darkness of said symbols too, lots of mirrored meanings...

note: On the topic of darkness, I like the nearly scary facial expression on my insect girl OC. I want to draw more provocative and unnerving pieces in the future!
