l To Be Alive Here
“Let me share a short Zen message.”
Karma is a teaching of the Buddha. It means: “I am here because of you.
If you were not here, I would not be here.”
We live by supporting each other—like the threads of a woven cloth.
When we understand this, gratitude and humility naturally arise.
l When you ride a bicycle, you must look ahead and keep your balance.
If you are careless, you may fall.
Life is the same. Zazen teaches us to sit straight, look ahead, and focus.
“Look ahead and live your life”—this is living zazen. Zazen is not only on the cushion.
l A car has brakes.
Without brakes, it is dangerous. But what about our minds?
We get angry, sad, or excited. Without inner brakes, we may lose control.
Zazen helps us find this quiet brake within.
l When we turn a steering wheel, there is always a small delay before the car responds.
This “time” is important. In our mind, this “time” is calmness. Before acting, take a breath. Create a small space. That is zazen.
To live calmly, to act with awareness—this is the way to be truly alive here.
