”ジャーナル”と”ダイアリー”の違い
I have been wondering about the difference between "journal" and "diary" meaning.
Japanese people usually use "diary" for their writing daily things sentence. However I found that many English speakers use "journal" for that.
I read a dictionary and I understood like this;
"Journal" have a meaning of "writing things that happened around him, and thought of himself".
"Diary" have a meaning of "writing things that he felt himself, and it won''t be seen by other people".
I'm happy if someone tell me a nuances.
私は”ジャーナル”と”ダイアリー”の意味の違いが気になっていました。
日本人はたいてい”ダイアリー”を日常の出来事を書き留めたものとして使います。でも多くのネイティブがそれに”ジャーナル”を使っていることに気が付いたのです。
辞書を読んで分かったことは以下；
”ジャーナル”は身の周りの出来事や、彼の考えを書く。
”ダイアリー”は彼が彼自身について感じたことを書き、他者に見られることはない。
もしどなたかニュアンスを教えてもらえたら嬉しいです。

Diary and Journal, by definition are exactly the same thing!
Diary derives from Latin (dies) which means a day.
Journal derives from French (journal) which means daily.
They are both meant to be something that one writes daily.
For some reasons, people tend to refer to Journal almost as a log of daily events and facts, while referring to Diary as a private log where one writes intimate facts or events.
But I used to wonder the same thing!
ダイアリーとジャーナルの意味は全く同じです！
ダイアリーはラテン語で日という意味の(dies)から、ジャーナルはフランス語で日々という意味の(journal)から来ています。どちらも日常的に書くものです。
なんとなく、ジャーナルは日常の出来事を書く時によく使われていて、実際、ダイアリーはもっと個人的で内密な内容の時に使われています。
でも同じことを疑問に思っていました！

I only use the word journal. Diary has a much stronger personal connotation. A place where you write really intimate things. And I can't imagine a man keeping a diary. Feels like something mostly women would keep. In a journal I think you could write about a broader variety of topics too. Like, I, personally, would write about my thoughts on politics or the environment in a journal, but not in a diary.
私はジャーナルしか使いません。ダイアリーは個人的な要素を強く含んでいて、内密なことを書く場所です。そして、私は男性がダイアリーを書くのが想像できません。ダイアリーはたいてい女性が書くものだと思っています。ジャーナル上では広範囲で様々な話題を書くことができます。例えば私は、政治や環境問題に対する個人的な考えを、ダイアリーではなくジャーナルに書きます。
知らなかった～
わたしは”ダイアリー”を幅広く”日記”という意味で使っていました。”ジャーナル”は”定期刊行誌”のことだと思っていたので。
改めて辞書を引いてみると、”ジャーナル”には色んな意味があるようですね。
勉強になりました。
このブログも”ダイアリー”ではなく”ジャーナル”と名付けるべきだったのかな
