所有格―(3)語法上の注意

A.　所有格に続く名詞の省略

1)　語の重複を避けるための省略

She put her arm through her mother's (arm).　（母親と腕を組んだ）

2)　慣用的な省略

I was invited to the Browns' (house) last night.

（私はゆうべブラウンさん[夫妻]の家に招かれました）

☆　「医者に行く」「床屋に行く」の場合は-'sのない形もよく使われる。

She went to her doctor for an annual check-up.

（例年の謙信で[掛かりつけの]医者に行った）

I go to the barber twice a month.　（月に2回床屋へ行きます）

B.　that book of Tom'sの形式

語法上that Tom's bookもTom's that bookも許されない。
