ヨハネの福音書９章を読んでいて、ある部分が心に止まりました。それは、４節の「だれも働くことの出来ない夜が来ます。」というところです。
ヨハネ９章 (John 9)
１）またイエスは道の途中で、うまれつきの盲人を見られた。
(And as Jesus passed by, he saw a man which blind from his birth.)
２）弟子たちは彼についてイエスに質問して言った。「先生。彼が盲目にうまれついたのは、だれが罪を犯したからですか。その両親ですか。」
(And his disciples asked him, saying Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind?
３）イエスは答えられた。「この人が罪を犯したのでもなく、両親でもありません。神のわざがこの人に現れるためです。
(Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him.)
４）わたしたちは、わたしを遣わした方のわざを、昼の間に行なわなければなりません。だれも働くことのできない夜が来ます。
(I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.)
５）わたしが世にいる間、わたしは世の光です。」
(As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.)
主なる神キリストの光 = 内なる光 = 聖霊の灯火
Light of Christ = Inner light = Light of Holy Spirit
旧約時代の聖霊の働きは、外側から預言者達に働きかけていましたが、新約時代のペンテコステから今日に至るまで、聖霊は私達クリスチャン一人一人の内に住まわれ、私達の内側から働かれています。
しかし、不法の人、即ち反キリストが現れるその時、この世界は霊的暗闇に包まれます。そして、それと同時に聖霊の灯火は、真のクリスチャンと共に天に引き上げられるのではないでしょうか。その事を示している聖書の箇所があります。
第二テサロニケ２章 (2 Thessalonians 2 [NIV])
３）だれにも、どのようにも、だまされないようにしなさい。なぜなら、まず背教が起こり、不法の人、すなわち滅びの子が現れなければ、主の日は来ないからです。
(Don't let anyone deceive you in any way, for that day will not come until the rebellion occurs and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the man doomed to destruction.)
４）彼は、すべて神と呼ばれるもの、また礼拝されるものに反抗し、その上に自分を高く上げ、神の宮の中に座を設け、自分こそ神であると宣言します。
(He will oppose and will exalt himself over everything that is called God or is worshiped, so that he sets himself up in God's temple, proclaiming himself to be God.)
５）私がまだあなたがたのところにいたとき、これらのことをよく話しておいたのを思い出しませんか。
(Don't you remember that when I was with you I used to tell you these things?)
６）あなたがたが知っているとおり、彼がその定められた時に現れるようにと、いま引き止めているものがあるのです。
(And now you know what is holding him back, so that he may be revealed at the proper time.)
７）不法の秘密はすでに働いています。しかし今は引き止める者があって、自分が取り除かれる時まで引き止めているのです。
(For the secret power of lawlessness is already at work, but the one who now holds it back will continue to do so till he is taken of the way.)
引き止める者(One who holds back) ⇒ 聖霊(Holy Spirit)
そしてその後、残されたクリスチャンやその他の人々の間でも、真に神に立ち返る人々、或いは新しく救われる人々は出て来ます（黙示録６章９‐11節、７章４－17節、20章４節）。
内なる光である聖霊が取り除かれた後の大艱難時代においても、勿論、聖霊は働かれます。その時の働きの仕方は、旧約時代の時のように、信者の内側からではなく、外側から働かれるようになるのでしょう。
