このため下流域の町や村が水没しています。生態系にも甚大な被害が出てますが、人的被害もこれから報道されるでしょう。
なによりも欧州最大のザポリージャ原発の冷却水がこのダムから取水されているのでこれも心配です。

国際法ではダムの破壊は核兵器の使用に匹敵するテロ行為とされています。ロシアは過去にもこのダムを破壊した前科があります。

その後の情報から、ダムの決壊は爆破や砲撃などでは無く自然破壊ではないかとの疑問が出ています。
直前のダムの水位が過去最高であったとの報告もあり、ロシア侵攻以来ダムの損傷が進んでいたこともあって水圧に耐えかねたのではないかと。
