this is a mix tape by miles maeda which i got from him when he stayed in my apartment years and years ago. as you know, he put out a lot of mix tapes in various genres such as house, downtempo, etc., and in the tape, he mixed jungle, i mean a good time jungle. i don't know how many of this tape he put out but as you see name and title are his own handwriting.

これは、随分前に僕のアパートにマイルス・マエダ君が滞在した時、本人からもらったミックス・テープです。彼はハウスやダウンテンポなど様々なジャンルのミックス・テープを出していますが、これはジャングル。しかも良い時代のジャングル。このテープは何本くらい出したのか分かりませんが、ご覧のようにタイトルと名前は彼の手書き。

he told me why he used the word "kiku" for the tape. as you know, he is a third-generation japanese american born in hawaii (if i remember correctly). anyway, he found out the meaning of "kiku" and also it has various different meanings. "kiku" could be a name of flower, could be the verbs "listen," "relieve," etc. he was really fascinated by the fact and decided to use the word for his mix tape's title.

テープのタイトルになぜ「きく」という言葉を使ったのか教えてくれました。ご存知のように、彼はハワイ生まれの日系3世のアメリカ人（記憶が正しければ）。それで、ある時に「きく」という言葉の意味、そしてこの言葉には花の名前や「聞く」、「利く」など沢山の意味があることを知ったそうです。で、この言葉に惹かれてタイトルに使用したのだとか。
