Portugal's caretaker prime minister Jose Socrates says he has reached agreement on a financial aid deal with the EU and the International Monetary Fund. The plan includes cuts in government spending as well as selling off state-owned assets.

caretaker：一時的に責任者を務める役人(an official who performs the duties of an office temporarily)で、ここでは暫定内閣の首相ということか。 これは、英国での言い方でしょうね。 caretaker（英国）=janitor（米国）？？
distinctly：語源を追跡すると、=>distinct=>distinguish=>［ラテン語「(棒で)突き分ける」の意 (DIS‐+stinguere ‘stick')、いやー、おもしろい。
bailout： (政府等の緊急融資による)救済［救出］，緊急融資援助，ベイルアウト。bail outから来ているんだが、元々保釈金(bail)を積んで助け出すこと。このbailの語源は、From the Old French verb bailler (“to deliver または hand over”) and noun bail (“lease”), from Latin bāiulāre, present active infinitive of bāiulō (“carry または bear”). どうして、この語源から保釈金になるのか？？？
