節分とは読んで時のごとく、季節の分かれ目、つまり冬が終わり春がやってくる日なのですが、二十歳になる私の娘は小さい頃から鬼に豆を投げて追い払うイメージが強すぎていまだにこの日を「鬼の日」と呼んでいます。ちなみに２月３日は妻の誕生日・・・だから鬼の日・・・ではないと思いますが・・・
冗談はさておき、節分の日に豆まきや軒先に柊をおいて鬼を追い払うという風習はどうやら日本特有のものようです。私の外国人の友人は皆、そんな風習や行事は日本以外では知らないと言っています。なんだか不思議ですね。もしどなたかご存知でしたら教えてください。
The “SETSUBUN” is, as the word says, the traditional turning point of the season from winter to spring. My daughter, who has already become 20 years old, still calls the day as “day of the ogres” because of her strong images of the day from her childhood; - throwing beans at the ogres to chase them away from home. By the way, the Feb-3 is my wife’s birthday too, but I have never ever thought it might the reason for her to call it “day of the ogres”…
Joking aside, it seems to be a unique culture in the world; - throwing beans or hanging the holly sprigs under eaves to chase the ogres away from home. None of my foreign friends know a similar culture or activity in any other countries. I am wondering why. Could anyone please let me know if there are some?
