Alienware M14x

Welcome to a Samsung Camcorder Battery specialist of the Samsung Digital Camera Battery

The holidays have always been a time for gifts, so why not treat yourself to a little something special this year? Namely the Alienware M14x, a hulking behemoth of a 14 inch gaming laptop, rugged enough to feel worth every cent of its hefty price point, and with enough power to put most desktops to shame. If you haven’t guessed, we really rather like it!

Coming in a range of configurations, each a tailored to suit different budgets, but all offering seriously high end performance, the Alienware M14x is a truly monstrous device. Weighing in at almost 3kg with an 8-cell battery such as samsung SB-P90A Battery, samsung SB-P180A Battery, samsung SB-LH73 Battery, samsung SDC-MS61 Battery, samsung SB-LH82 Battery, samsung VP-MS15 Battery, samsung VP-MS10 Battery, samsung IT100 Battery, samsung WB750 Battery, samsung SL820 Battery, samsung HMX-U10 Battery, samsung SLB-10A Battery attached and measuring 37.8 x 258.36 x 3.37 mm it’s certainly not for the faint hearted (or those with chronic back problems for that matter), but considering what you’re getting inside, its bulk is hardly surprising.

It ships with third generation Intel Core i Ivy Bridge processors (our review unit sported a rather impressive Core i7-3610QM running 8 cores at 2.3Ghz, memory configurations of up to 16GB, the Intel HM67 chipset, 2GB NVIDIA GeForce GT650M graphics card and a RAID configuration featuring a Samsung 32GB SSD and Western Digital 750GB HDD, which combined to nab it an excellent 7.1 score on the Windows Experience Index.

The external chassis comes with more than enough connection options, including a Gigabit Ethernet IPv6 port, 2 USB 3.0 ports, 1 USB 2.0 port, 1 mini display port, HDMI 1.4 output, VGA port, a media card reader, 2 1/8” audio outputs (one of which is compatible with an in-line mic headset), 1 1/8” line in jack and a security lock port for those of you who like to ensure the safety and security of your devices.

Overall it’s difficult to fault the performance of the machine as a gaming device; it handled everything we threw at it comfortably, from Diablo III to GTA IV with the iCEnhancer, with nary a dropped frame to be seen. As a multimedia machine it performs equally impressively, tackling large Photoshop and Sony Vegas projects without so much as batting an eyelid. In fact, despite the general rule of thumb being that if you’re looking for a multimedia development powerhouse, whether for audio, video or images, you’re better off avoiding gaming systems, the M14x does represent genuine value for money for non-gamers.

Obviously though, this is a gaming rig at its very core. It doesn’t matter what genre you prefer, or whether or not flashy Direct X 11 visuals are your thing, the Alienware M14x is a genuine monster. Whether an old or new title, it’ll bring out the very best in your game collection, putting even the most visually accomplished console visuals to shame in the process.

It’s certainly a touch on the bulky side, but the Alienware M14x is an all-round powerhouse, capable of just about anything. It’s a system that’s ideal for both hardcore gamers and those who are looking for a monstrous multimedia device on the go. It offers plenty of customisation options too, through its illuminated keyboard which is controllable via built in software, and even if the rugged style isn’t going to be for everyone, there’s a certain pleasure that can be taken from dimming the lights and setting the LED lights to cycle through a range of colours. Although there’s far more pleasure to be gained from shooting mouthy American kids in the face in your favourite FPS title, so we recommend that approach too.
