Dearest my friends,
Outside its religious connotations, Easter has traditionally been a time to celebrate the return of spring. Flowers are in bloom, the fields are full of new shoots and animals are giving birth left, right and centre. In order to celebrate this rebirth of wildlife, the clear end of the winter, a number of traditions have been built up regarding the giving of presents at this time of year.
That's what people say everyone, but I have to doubt it.
Winter just has come back in England I reckon.
I'm not that needy... I just wanna remember what does the 'sunshine' look and feel like :-(
Oh, I went to Istanbul for a week last week with my Turkish flatmates and enjoyed totally different cultures there. hey people! It's a myth if you believe that English is the most powerful and useful language with which you can go anywhere and communicate with everyone.
I was useless and was like a baby in Istanbul, not being able to speak and to do what I was supposed to do. I even 'accidentaly' went into a male toilet (well, I learnt new words 'bay' and 'bayan' through this bitter experience, so that's fine. we, humanbeing, are learning every sngle day anyways).
It was quite challenging that I could not laugh when people are making jokes in turkish over dinner or lunch, and then every thirty mins or so they surmarise what they've been talking about! hahah. I don't blame my lovely mates AT ALL, but it was just hard, especially when people are extremely nice and friendly!
and my flatmate, Burak, goes;
'Now you understand how your future students may feel when they first learnt English, huh?'
Okay mate. let's look on the bright side then.
but I do not think you did whole things, not to translate or try to speak in English with others, on purpose though! you are an awesome guy really.
Our school starts from the end of April again, and campus is dead quiet...
All European friends are back to their sweet hometown, so I desparately try to find some of my friedns who are staying here, like English people.
Me and my closest friend/ bf candidate?!, Pat, (but I still doubt he might be gay.. it's okay cuz I always wanted englsh gay mate anyways ;) are going to Stratford, a birth place of Shakespeare. Both of us are English Lit. degree holders, but never been there before, so we'll educate ourselves on Thu.
Oh, here is a funny, or maybe not really, funny story about Pat.
This Brit guy said 'California is located on the east coast'...
oh my load.
I knew that brits are ignorant of american cultures and history, but still... HOW COME?
and I go 'hey come on! I was in Oregon before and I know exactly where California is mate!'
He was like, 'Are you sure that you are not talking about the location in relation to the location of Japan?'
HAHAHA.
It's not funny anymore.
well, I'm enjoying myself with study and social life and will be officially a bit 'matured', or you can say older, in a week. uhm...
wow, that was a long diary! This shows how bored I am now ;P
Thank you for reading, Mr./ Mrs./ Miss./ Ms/ someone on the earth!
cheers,
dosankoregon xx
