Just after the deal was done, I said to Nick the car sales man, that my brother Lindsay would also like to buy his wife a new Lancer. The price that Nick had given to me was still written on the card, that he had given to me two weeks before. I rang Lindsay right there and then so that he could speak to Nick. After the phone call, Nick said that Lindsay had asked him, to "make sure, he looks after me. "(protective brother) and then they talked about the deal.
In my response to Nick, I told him that my brothers had cared for me and that I had been able to buy the car because they had helped me financially. This brought me to tears as was overcome by emotion, as I spoke of their love for me. I continued, talking about the work that my parents did as missionaries in the Goldfield's, interstate. He wasn't sure what I meant by "missionaries", which allowed me to elaborate further.
As missionaries, they served the Lord Jesus Christ, following his example to care for others. Dad and Mum had given up a lifestyle, family and a successful farm machinery business, in order to follow the call of God, to care for others.
Now they were the parents of eight children; me the youngest. Not having a lot of money, living by faith and trust in God, Dad put in a tender for some houses for $!0 each, to house old people who had no homes. His tender was accepted. Nick was amazed at this story and said that it was nice to hear about a good man. He said that he tries to be good, but its hard. I replied "none of us are good, only God is good. None of us are perfect. We have all fallen short of God's glory (his goodness). I then quoted John 3;16.. "for God so loved the wold that he gave his only Son that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have everlasting life." Then we were interrupted by a lady, to continue business and sign papers.
10 days later I dropped back into the car yard. I had chocolates and wine to give to to the staff at the car yard. I wanted to thank them for selling me my car. I wanted to follow up with a card for Nick, to remind him of our conversation about the the everlasting life God offers, through his Son Jesus Christ. The salesmen couldn't believe that I had come in to thank them. Later, Nick rang me to thank me for the card.
