A verse of scripture that my Mum wrote in a birthday card to me years ago was from Proverbs chapter 3..'Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding, In all your ways acknowledge him and he will make your paths straight.'
In life all we can do is trust. We may think that we have control over our lives, but this is a fallacy. In the natural course of life, we do not have the control over our conception or birth, nor of our death. We bring nothing into the world and take nothing out. Life and death happens one way or another and so it should be with the rest of our life. We should not worry about our lives, but trust in the one who gave it to us in the first place. We carry in us the breath of God; the majesty on high, who breathed air into our lungs. That should be enough to remind us to trust.
A few nights ago I walked along the beach at night with my friend Jenny. We were awe struck at the moon. It was an amazing orange and reflected like a staircase, onto the calm and peaceful water below. The night sky was clear navy, with only a few stars twinkling here and there, leaving the moon to be the centre of attention. And so, we trust. For it is our Lord who 'has set the moon and stars in place. He has set his glory above the heavens.' (Psalm8:3). It is He that causes the rain to fall and the sun to rise and set. May we TRUST in the LORD with all our heart and lean not on our own understanding. In all our ways acknowledge him, for he will make our paths straight.
