I started learning English lesson since primary three in my country, I can still remember the lovely cartoon characters printed on my text book, tutors were trying to teach us by playing interesting games, study of English seems to be enjoyable when I was young. Even when I grew older and started formal English lesson in Secondary school, I did not feel that English is a difficult subject as only few vocabularies and simple grammar had been taught during each lesson.
After I finished three years of study in secondary school and decided to continue my studies in Singapore, I realized that my rocky journey of English study has just started.
Standard of English language in Singapore is much higher compare with school in my country, standard speaking and writing skills is required during any examinations. However, I was unable to write any single paragraph in English when I just entered the school. I struggled with grammar and vocabularies when reading book and passage, comprehension practice have always become a nightmare for me, I have to check every single word by dictionary and it really exhausted me. Moreover, international students came from other countries, such as Indonesian and Philippine seems more competitive as they are more comfortable with speaking English, which increased pressure on me. Anyway, learning of English always makes me extremely stressful.
Learning of English really became a tough work for me; however, there is no way to escape from it. Although I declared Chinese as my major studies, English writing skills is still necessary for other English teaching subjects. Furthermore, I also need confidence to make more international friends by improving my English as I am living in Singapore. I have to work harder to continue my journey of English language learning.
