Corporate UK and eurosceptic UK were both left fuming last night after the European commission floated the idea of abolishing the Made in Britain label and replacing it with one saying Made in the EU.
The commission Christian Louboutin Outlet claimed it had not yet decided on any course of action but news that it was even thinking about the issue was a red rag to the eurosceptic bull.
Jonathan Evans, the most senior Tory MEP, suggested that hundreds of years of British history were at stake.
"Products throughout the Cheap Christian Louboutin world are recognised as high-quality goods by the Made in Britain label," he said in a statement. "91;But93; these new proposals could mean the end of this proud tradition and make it difficult for firms to promote their products as British. It is essential that nations can promote their products in any way they wish."
The initiative would only pile further red tape and costs on British business, he added.
The CBI agreed, arguing that consumers Cheap Christian Louboutin Shoes want more information about a product's origin, not less.
"British business believes in giving customers what they want and this is not going to help," argued the CBI's John Cridland. "The move would only obscure where products have come from at a time when consumers are asking for more information."
Nor was the sound and fury restricted Christian Louboutin Bourge 100mm Leather to British politicians and businessmen. Alarmed that such prestigious labels such as Made in Germany might also disappear, German MEPs rubbished the plans too.
"Everyone knows a Made in Germany car stands for quality and perfection, shoes made in Italy stand for chic fashion and Scotch whisky is world-renowned," said Ingo Friedrich, a right wing German MEP, in a statement.
But the commission said it was an idea worth thinking about, adding it had carried out a preliminary study Christian Louboutin Elisa 100mm into the pros and cons. More concrete proposals were likely to emerge in February or March, a spokeswoman said, explaining that the idea was the brainchild of Italy.
The commission believes a Made in the EU label on everything from cars to shoes would promote the EU globally and could become a real mark of prestige. It says it hasn't made yet made up its mind about the final form of any proposals and that one option would be to allow a national label such as Made in Britain to "coexist" alongside Made in the EU.
