EDO TOKYO MUSEUM - EDO ZONE 江戸東京博物館・江戸ゾーン

EDO TOKYO MUSEUM is one of the tourist sites in Tokyo, and is a good place to know about history and people's life style particularly Edo period (1603-) and after in Japan.

Although I didn't take photo, but there is a life-size Nihonbashi Bridge made of wood at the entrance of the exhibition area.

江戸東京博物館 は観光地のひとつにもなっており、特に江戸時代以降の日本の歴史や人々の暮らしをしるのにいいところです。なお写真はとっていないのですが、実物大・木製の日本橋が展示エリアの入り口にあります。

In the Edo period, society was devided into four social strata: warriors, peasants, artisans, and merchants. Artisans and merchants were known as "townpeopple." They lived in the oldtown area in densely packed quarters. Some families shared a restroom and a well. One of the significant features is they already had a water supply system.

江戸時代の人々は武士、農民、職人、商人にわかれており、職人と商人は「町人」と呼ばれました。彼らは人口が密集した下町に住み、数家族がトイレや井戸を共有する生活をしていました。すごいのは、江戸時代にすでに「水道」のシステムがあったことです。

In the Edo period they often had fire, so their house was really simple. They just had what they needed for their work and life, or renting things (such as futon matress) was common so that they go away with minimun luggage in case of fire.

江戸時代は火事が多かったので、すぐに逃げられるよう、仕事や生活に最低限必要なものしか持たず、布団などもレンタルすることが多かったそうです。
