That’s it for the first day of the Licensing Expo in London. I have some other meetings tomorrow, and then it’s back home again. What do you think of the new TMNT cartoon, Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles? Sure, it’s different than what I grew up with, but every incarnation is different then the previous one. “My” cartoon was also different than the comic. I’ve seen people calling it a “cash grab”, but don’t those people realize that most of the cartoons that we loved as a kid, we’re all basically animated commercials to sell toys? Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and I love the fact that a new cartoon brings forth a new generation of fans for a franchise that I cherish. And with more fans comes more exposure and possibly love for the original/earlier incarnations. Without the 2016 Ghostbusters movie, we may not have had the Ghostbusters 101 comics. Without the new Star Wars movies we may not have had all those re-issues of classic action figures. Without the Transformers movies those War for Cybertron games weren’t made. Without the DCEU we might not have had the Batman: The Animated Series on Blu-ray. Instead of hating something because it’s different from what you know, can’t we just love every opportunity that brings forth more fans for something we cherish? Isn’t that what a true fan is?
