これは、入院中の娼婦Noemiを看病している主婦Heleneの言葉。

I watched a French movie「Chaos」directed by Coline Serreau.

突然、車の前に怪しげな男達に追われる若い女性が現れて助けを求めてきたときに
ドアを開けずにロックする夫のPaul。
女は男達に捕まり、フロントガラスに頭を打ち付けられて血まみれで倒れる。
しかし夫は彼女を助けようともせずに血で汚れたフロントガラスをテッシュで拭き、
救急車も呼ばずに洗車に向う。

It is the story of an Algerian prostitute, Noemi (Rachida Brakni), who is beaten on the streets of Paris before the eyes of a wealthy couple, Paul (Vincent Lindon) and Helene (Catherine Frot), who witness the incident from their car. Helene, who is plagued with guilt, seeks out Noemi, who has fallen into a coma in the hospital. Feeling responsible, Helene commits herself to helping Noemi, whose attackers continue to plague her and who is also at risk of being deported.

物語は小気味よいテンポで展開され, フランス映画独特の洒脱な雰囲気を持っている。
The story is developed at a quick tempo and has smart and refined French movie flavor.

エレーヌ曰く「感動を忘れた石か木のような人」という夫のポールを、彼女の目の前で３０秒もたたないうちに「虜」にしてしまうノエミの「火をつけて骨抜きにする」手練手管が実に楽しい。
Helene says her hasband is like a stone or a tree who has forgotten how to be moved,
but Noemi makes him a prisoner of love using her charm less than thirty seconds.
