昨日の「めざまし地球紀行」は「ドイツメルヘン街道の旅」でした。
グリム兄弟は (Schwalmstadt) シュヴァルムシュタットの伝統の民族衣装を身につけた女の子を見て、
「赤ずきん」のお話をイメージしたと言われています。
「赤ずきん」のお話をイメージしたと言われています。
頭に乗せた赤い小さなコップのようなものは「ケプフェレ」。
ところで、この「ケプフェレ」ですが、私が小さな頃から知っている赤ずきんちゃんの「頭巾」とはまるでイメージが違い驚きました。
ちなみに未婚女性は「赤のケプフェレ」既婚者は「緑のケプフェレ」だったと思います。
Once upon a time, a beautiful young girl lived in a village near a big forest.
She loved to wear the red riding hood that her loving mother gave her.
So, everyone called her Little Red Riding Hood.
One day, her mother said, "Dear, go and see how your grandmother is feeling.
And please take her this basket of cakes.
Now, remember, don't talk to any strangers on the way!"
The little girl started to walk through the forest.
A hungry wolf saw her, and stopped her.
The wolf said, "Where are you going, little girl?"
The little girl said, "I'm going to visit my grandmother's house to bring her some cakes. She lives near that hill."
The wolf said, "Oh, I know a shortcut. I think I can get to her house faster than
you can. Let's go!"
The wolf did know a shortcut.
And he got to Grandmother's house before Little Red Riding Hood.
He knocked on the door. Grandmother said, "Who is it?"
The wolf said, "It's Little Red Riding Hood. I've brought you some cakes."
Grandmother said, "That's so nice. Push the door and come in, dear."
Now, the wolf hadn't eaten in three days. He was very hungry.
So, he found Grandmother in her bed, and ate her all up!

The wolf got into grandmother's bed, and waited for Little Red Riding Hood.
When she tapped on the door, he tried to change his voice, "Who's there?"
The little girl said, "It's your granddaughter. I've brought you some cakes."
The wolf said, "Come in dear."
Little Red Riding Hood was afraid, because her grandmother's voice was very strange.
But, she thought that her grandmother had a cold. So she went inside.
The wolf said,
"Put the cakes on the table, and come to bed with me, because I am very cold."
Little Red Riding Hood was amazed at the size of her grandmother's body.
She said, "Grandmother, what big arms you have!"
The wolf said, "All the better to hug you with, my dear."
Little Red Riding Hood said, "Grandmother, what big legs you have!"
The wolf said, "All the better to run with, my dear."
Little Red Riding Hood said, " Grandmother, what big eyes you have."
The wolf said, "All the better to see you, my dear."
Little Red Riding Hood said, "Grandmother, what big teeth you have."
The wolf said, "All the better to eat you up!"
And with that, he did!

Now, you might think that's the end of the story.
After all, the poor grandmother and poor Little Red Riding Hood became the wolf's dinner.
But two carpenters had heard that a bad wolf was in the forest.
They found the wolf walking slowly through the woods.
He tried to run, but he was so heavy from his meals that he couldn't escape.
The carpenters asked, "Where are you going, Mr. Wolf?"
The wolf said, "I'm going to my home to sleep, as I am very full."
The carpenters guessed that he had eaten their friends. So they killed him!
And they made a warm wolf fur coat for Little Red Riding Hood's mother.
