ひな祭りと言えば「桃の花」。。。で,思い出すのが。。。
黒澤明監督の「こんな夢を見た」という印象的な言葉から始まる、８つのファンタスティックな
オムニバス映画 ｢夢」。
製作にはスティーヴン・スピルバーグとジョージ・ルーカスが協力、また第５話にはゴッホ役で
マーティン・スコセッシが出演していたのです。

桃の節句を祝う子供達の前に謎の少女が現れます。一人の少年がその子を追って、
伐採されたばかりの桃の木に辿り着きます。
そして、突然雛人形が現れるのですが、その場面の不思議な美しさはゾっとするほど印象的で
忘れられません。
その後、伐採を嘆いてくれていた少年の為に雛人形達は優雅な舞を見せてくれるのでした。
その衣装、今思えばワダエミさんだったのです。展覧会で初めて気がつきました。

March 3 is the Hinamatsuri(ひな祭り), a doll’s festival celebrated by Japanese families with daughters. This festival is a traditional event to pray for the healthy growth and happiness of girls. The dolls dressed in Heian era(平安時代）（794-1185）costumes are put on display for two weeks leading up to March 3. According to an old tradition, girls can’t easily marry if we display the dolls after March 3. So, never forget to store the dolls away as soon as possible. The most essential figures are the emperor and empress dolls backed by a golden decorative screen. This kind of two-doll set, called “Sinno-kazari(親王飾り)” is most popular today in Japanese households to cope with the difficulty of displaying and storing dolls. My aunt has “Dankazari(段飾り)”, about 20 dolls displayed on 7 red-carpeted tiers. We have difficulties putting them together. On the top of the tier, she displays three sets of “Sinno-kazari” for her sisters. The emperor and empress on the top are accompanied by “Sannin-kanjo(三人官女)”, the ladies-in waiting, musicians, guards, and attendants for them. Also offerings of “hishimochi（ひし餅）”, a colorful diamond shaped cake of glutinous rice paste, hinaarare(ひなあられ), sweetened pink and white puffed rice, shiro-zake(白酒), sake mixed with rice malt is displayed. I like hinaarare and eat a pack a day everyday for two weeks leading up to March 3. Another name of the Doll’s festival is the peach blossom festival(桃の節句). These beautiful pink blossoms associated with the Hinamatsuri. Its association with the Hinamatsuri dates back to China where Peach blossoms were thought to give protection against evil spirits Girls invite their friends to celebrate the festival. A pair of lanterns named “Bonbori(ぼんぼり)” are lit, and girls start singing the famous song of Hinamatsuri. The days are getting longer and jinchoge, or sweet daphne are in bloom with an elegant fragrance. If we have warm weather, cherry blossoms, symbol of Japan will come into bloom toward the end of March.
