I've attended the class for 2 days so far. Pretty tired to be honest but fun also.

My writing class is nice and relaxing. No stress, no worries. The teacher assured us on the first day that no one in this class will fail the exam! Actually, everyone in my class is hard working, kinda A-Plus students!! I am sure the teacher is quite impressed at our enthusiasm.

My afternoon class is Linguistic. This was not a class I was wishing to attend at the first stage ( I wanted to take English Literature, but you know, how the writing class had been assigned for me...) but in fact, I found it a very interesting subject. The only issue is the sleepiness after lunch which attacks me constantly... please go away...

I have to do my report tomorrow.... same as I said last weekあせる I will do it tomorrow, definitely tomorrow!

I am going to keep my diaries in English just for this week to kind of prepare for the "Writing" class which starts next week at the Uni. Yes, I know.....I am thirty something years old and attending "academic" (not business!) writing class during my precious summer break from work. Serious? Yes, I am very serious believe it or not. Writing and Reading are the mandatory subjects for all students in correspondence courses in Keio no matter your English is already proficient or not.

Personally speaking, English has truly become one of my languages to use in daily life. In fact, English is still ( and forever ) a tough language so I have been studying up until today but I am not scared of it any more. I graduated from American high school as an exchange student ( was not a brilliant student though ), and went to college in Australia ( note that I did not study but partied whole year.. I did not mean to go to college to study anyway...I just wanted to stay with my ex..poor idea ), and on top of that, I still write in English everyday at work probably more than Japanese.
So, what am I expecting from the course? The biggest reason to attend the class is.... because it is a core curriculum. That may be enough to explain why I am willing to sacrifice my vacation to such a thing. But is that all? Well, I think there is something else more profound.

People like me, think that you are so-called "bilingual", often misinterpret the meaning of it and overestimate your ability. In many cases, the fact is that your English (and Japanese) is not as good as you think. Mine is not either. I am not saying it is always good to be good but at least I think it will become a great opportunity for all of us the working students to go back to basics and learn things at an authentic institution like Keio. I am glad to receive a chance to benefit from someone's expertise to improve it. Language changes with times but you cannot have your language updated without knowing basics. You may also need deep understanding of the background info such as history, philosophy, sociology, the bible(?) or whatever belongs to the language to make it yours.

As a student of faculty of Letter, I believe my goal would be to find my own answer for " Why art is necessary" and to get the sense of literature as art through the entire course. I want my life to become more artistic and profound.

P.S. Guess I wrote something very similar in my essay for the enrollment.... glad they let me through!
