私は昨日の夜’おぜんざい’をつくりました。

It is red bean soup. It is very hot, sweet and tasty.

それは小豆の汁です。とても温かくて甘くておいしいものです。

I love to put some roasted rice cakes in it.

私は焼き餅を入れるのがとても好きです。

　　（これは親しみを込めて、相手の様子がとても良い事を一緒に喜びます。会話への発展もしやすいですね＾－＾）

☆How is your mother ??　　お母様もお元気ですか？＾－＾

　　（あいさつ言葉の後に、もし相手のご家族や友人とあなたが知り合いなら、その人の様子も聞いたりします。とても親しい気持ちになりますね♪)

Two types of adjectives 二種類の形容詞

皆さん　こんにちは

This time we will look at a common mistake made by English learners using adjectives.
今回は　英語を習っている人がよくする形容詞の間違いについて。

Look at this example.
例を見て見ましょう。

A - How are you?
　お元気ですか？

B - I am boring. I have nothing to do.
　つまらないです（退屈です）。　何もすることがありません。

In the above example B should say I am bored.
上の例では　Bさんは　I am bored.　と言うべきです。

I am boring means I am not an interesting person.
I am boring と言うと　　私はつまらない人間です。　と言う意味になってしまいます。

So we have two types of adjectives, -ed adjectives and -ing adjectives,
形容詞には2種類のタイプがあります。-ed 形容詞と -ing 形容詞です。

Which one do we use?
どちらを使いますか？

-ing adjectives describe a situation,person or thing.
-ing 形容詞は　立場、人　物などを　表します。

an interesting life
面白い生活

a boring teacher
つまらない先生

an exciting film
刺激的な映画

-ed adjectives describe how people feel.
-ed 形容詞は人がどのように感じているか表します。

I`m very interested in modern art
私は現代芸術にとても興味があります。

We were bored at the end of the lesson
私たちは授業の最後には退屈していた。

She's excited about going on holiday next week.
彼女は来週旅行に行くことでわくわくしている。

Holiday / Vacation

こんにちは

This week we will look at the words holiday and vacation.
今週は、休暇　という言葉について

The two words have the same meaning.
この二つの言葉は同じ意味です。

Holiday is British English and vacation is American English.
holidayはイギリス英語、vacationはアメリカ英語です。

Often, students of English use holiday to talk about the weekend or one day off from work,
しばしば、holidayはイギリスの生徒が週末の休暇のことを言うときに使うか、仕事の一日休暇に使います。

but in English, holiday or vacation usually means a week or more.
しかし、イギリスでは普通　holidaiもvacationも一週間以上の休みのことを言います。

For example, in Australia, I would usually take a two week holiday over the Christmas/
New Year period, but up to four weeks was OK.

例：　　オーストラリアでは私は普通年末に2週間の休暇(holiday)をとりますが、4週間まで休暇をとることができます。

The following are some examples of how to use holiday or vacation.
下記はholidayとvacationの使い方の例です。

I’m afraid Mr Smith is away on holiday this week.
スミスさんは今週　休み(holiday)なのではないかしら。

Where are you going for your holidays this year?
今年の休み(holiday)はどこに行きますか？

They're on vacation in Hawaii at the moment.
彼らは今ハワイで休暇(vacation)をとってます。

You look tired you should take a vacation.
疲れてますね、休暇(vacation)をとるべきです。

Whether to use "the" or not at places (2)

こんにちは

This week we will continue last weeks theme.
今週は先週の続きです。

This week all of the following use THE.
今週は　THE　を使う　場合です。

Go to the cinema, the theatre, the bank, the post office.
映画館、劇場、銀行、郵便局　へ行く。

eg. I never go to the theatre but I often go to the cinema.
例：　私は劇場にはいかないが、よく映画館に行きます。

"Are you going to the bank?" "No, the post office."
　　　「銀行に行きますか？」「いいえ、郵便局に行きます。」

Go to the doctor, the dentist
病院、歯医者に行く。

eg. You're not well. Why don't you go to the doctor?
例：　体調悪そうですね。病院へ行ったらどうですか？

I'm going to the dentist on Tuesday.
　　　私は火曜日に歯医者に行きます。

We can also use THE with the station, the airport etc.
また、駅、空港などにも THEを使います。
