『マカオグランプリ Macau Grand Prix』はマカオ半島の南部で繰り広げられる公道レースで、その歴史は1954年にさかのぼります。
当初は草レースだったそうですが70年代に本格化、1983年からフォーミュラ3が走り、2005年からは世界ツーリングカー選手権の最終戦となるなど規模も存在感も年々増している世界でも人気のレースです。
へ向けて、GTO RACING 様の車両製作に携わりました。オクヤマ製品が装着されました車両がマカオグランプリに参戦します。それに先だって、GTO様からのNEWSが届いておりますのでUPさせて頂きます♪【GTO RACING NEWS VOL.5より】
６月１４日・１５日にＺＩＣ（珠海国際サーキット）で行われた「パンデルタレーシングフェスティバル サーキットヒーローレースＲｄ．３－４」。今回参戦予定だったＡｒｇｅｎｔ選手は急きょ不参戦する事となり、ＧＴＯレーシングチームからはＢｒｉａｎ選手のＡＴＯＭのみの参戦となった。
６月１４日・１５日にＺＩＣ（珠海国際サーキット）で行われた「パンデルタレーシングフェスティバル サーキットヒーローレースＲｄ．３－４」。今回参戦予定だったＡｒｇｅｎｔ選手は急きょ不参戦する事となり、ＧＴＯレーシングチームからはＢｒｉａｎ選手のＡＴＯＭのみの参戦となった。
１３日に行われたプラクティスでは総合でも２位と強さを魅せたＢｒｉａｎ選手。すでにこのクラスでは「向かうところ敵なし」のＢｒｉａｎ選手だったが、予選はまさかの２位。ＬＯＴＵＳを駆るＷｉｌｌｉａｍ選手に０．５秒差でクラストップの座を奪われたのだった。Ｒｄ．３が行われた１４日は快晴。レース時の気温は３９℃、路面温度は４９℃まで上がっており、厳しい暑さでのレースとなった。
スターティンググリッドは７番手、アウト側からのスタートとなり、クラス３位・スターティンググリッドはイン側すぐ後ろの同じくＡＴＯＭを駆るＦｉｅｌｄ選手が虎視眈々とトップを狙う。
好スタートを切った２台のＡＴＯＭはＬＯＴＵＳをかわしクラス１－２状態で１コーナーに飛び込み、予想通りＦｉｅｌｄ選手がレイトブレーキングからＢｒｉａｎ選手をパスしクラストップに躍り出る。
しかし、この状況はまさに「予想通り」だった為、ピットからの指示とドライバーの判断でわざと抜かさせたのであった。落ち着いたドライビングで２ラップ目のホームストレートでＦｉｅｌｄ選手をパス！！その後はＧＴ２クラスのＲａｄｉｃａｌ、ＧＴクラスのＭｅｒｃｅｄｅｓ Ｃ６３と総合３位争いを展開したが、水温の上昇を懸念しペースダウンを指示、最終的に総合４位でのゴールとなった。
もちろん、クラスでは２位と２１秒以上の差をつけダントツ優勝！予選での借りを返したＢｒｉａｎ選手だった。Ｒｄ．４は前日と打って変わっての雨模様。直前までタイヤチョイスに悩む天候であったが、雲行きからレインタイヤを選択。フォーメーションラップでは止んでいた雨も、スタート時には降り始め、タイヤチョイスは成功したのだった。
しかし、レーススタート後のオープニングラップのＴ７でＢｒｉａｎ選手が痛恨のスピンっ！！その間に総合１４位までポジションを落としてしまう・・・しかし、２ラップ目に１２位、３ラップ目に１１位、４ラップ目には８位と着々と順位を上げ、６ラップ目にはついにクラストップ、総合７位までポジションを上げたのだった。
この頃、雨脚はさらに激しくなり、６台のコースアウトマシンも出たという事で、レースは９周を終了したところで終了となり、総合７位、クラス優勝でゴールとなった。

オープンカーのＡＴＯＭにとって厳しい雨のレースとなったが、優勝をもぎ取ったＢｒｉａｎ選手。オープニングラップでのスピンなど今後の課題はいくつか残るが、堂々としたクラス優勝だった。

Here is a report from GTO RATING in China. We OKUYAMA have been supporting their vehicles in order to
win the Macau Grand Prix in 2014.
Round 3 and 4 of Pan Delta Racing Festival Circuit Hero Race was held at ZIC (Zhuhai International Circuit) on June 14th and 15th. Unfortunately sudden withdraw by Driver Argent; GTO Racing Team enters with only Brianʼs ATOM. Brian starts off strong leading his class in Friday Practice ending the day 2nd overall. Qualifying did not go as well, Brian takes 2nd position on the grid after losing by just 0.5sec to William in the Lotus. Round 3 quickly turned into a stressful race for both drivers and the machines as temperatures rose above 39 C with track temperatures reaching highs of 49 C. Brian would start from the outside of the track and on the lookout for Driver Field in the other ATOM in the inside 1 row behind. The two super fast starting ATOMs would take the lead right off the start going into T1, as expected Field with the inside line, late brakes and takes the lead. Fieldʼs move down the first corner was well anticipated by the team, Brian would quickly settle into rhythm and by the 2nd lap passes Field for the lead. Brian quickly extends his lead catching the cars ahead where he would battle for the rest of the race with GT2 Class Radical and GT Class Mercedes C63 for overall 3rd position. With over 21sec lead in his class, team instructs Brian to drop his pace to reduce any wear on the car and coast to Class Victory. Round 4 turned out to be another challenge with rain crashing down. Rain stopped briefly prior to race time but the team still decided to go with Rain Tires, the decision would be a right one as rain continued as the race started. The conditions would prove hard for all drivers claiming 6 retirements quickly into the race. Brian also fell victim in the opening lap, spinning on T7 dropping back to P14. Again Brian settled back into his comfort zone, climbing back to 12th on lap 2, 11th on lap 3, 8th on lap 4 and all the way back to overall 7th Class 1st on lap 6. As conditions deteriorated, the race was ended on lap 9 by the officials. Brian making an amazing comeback to finish 7th overall and 1st in his Class. Even with harsh conditions for the open cockpit ATOM, Driver Brian picks up his win but he goes home thinking of his mistake in the opening lap. to be continued・・・
