「一難去ってまた一難」（フライパンからやっと脱出できたと思ったら、今度は火の中に）
「踏んだり蹴ったり」の意味に近いが、「状況はさらに悪くなった」と言う場合にも使われる。
使用例 “It's too late. We’ve jumped out of the frying pan and into the fire.”
「時すでに遅し、われわれには踏んだり蹴ったりの状況だ」
