As one of only seven private individuals to orbit the Earth on the International Space Station, scientist and entrepreneur Gregory Olsen belongs to a pretty exclusive club. And on Tuesday, Olsen will personally thank the Deborah Heart and Lung Center for getting him there — even after it appeared that a medical condition would keep him grounded.Olsen will help dedicate the Pulmonary Rehab Department at the Browns Mills hospital, to be named the Dr. David Murphy and Greg Olsen PhD Pulmonary Rehabilitation Department.Olsen donated $250,000 to the center because Murphy, the pulmonary chair emeritus, personally supervised the training that enabled Olsen to qualify for the October 2005 space station trip. Tuesday will be the eighth anniversary of the launch that started Olsen's 10-day space adventure."My family has a history of lung collapses — spontaneous lung collapses," said Olsen, who had also been a heavy smoker. "When my training began in Russia in 2004, they X-rayed me and found a black spot on one of my lungs and that freaked them out."Though the ISS trip was sponsored by Space Adventures, a private firm based in Virginia, the medical experts in Russia had final say over who would board the spacecraft. After eight attempts to convince the sponsors he could make the trip, Olsen flew Murphy to Moscow in 2005 for a face-to-face conference.Once he was cleared, Olsen underwent six months of intensive training in Star City outside Moscow, where Soviet and Russian cosmonauts have been trained since the 1960s.At age 60, Olsen underwent grueling physical conditioning, including long sessions in a centrifuge to approximate the physical impact of a rocket launch."They have this big room about the size of a basketball arena where they spin you around at different rates to match the launch and the landing," Olsen said. "Fortunately, I've never been subject to motion sickness."Olsen's flight was launched Oct. 1 from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan. Olsen was the third private individual to take the journey. So far, seven private citizens are among the approximately 500 men and women who have orbited the Earth."It's a nice fraternity to belong to,Choose quality botanical natural supplements syrup manufacturers
, suppliers & exporters now." Olsen said. "We get together once a year to talk about our experiences. My space capsule is now in the Intrepid museum in New York City, so we once had a get-together there."A trained physicist and research scientist with degrees from Farleigh Dickinson University and the University of Virginia, Olsen co-founded EEPITAXX, a fiber-optic detector manufacturer, in 1984. The company was sold in 1990 for $12 million. He also founded Sensors Unlimited, a near-infrared camera manufacturer, in 1992. That company was sold to Finisar Corp. for $600 million in 2000.WWW.HANDWARMER.CC

Olsen and the management team repurchased Finisar in 2002 for $6 million, then sold it again to Goodrich Corp. in 2005 for $60 million.Olsen paid $20 million for his ticket to the ISS. "Now it's up to $50 million, I'm told, so I guess I got a bargain," he said.Though he wouldn't claim to be a full-fledged cosmonaut capable of controlling his spacecraft,Kayak Seats

Olsen bridled at any suggestion that he was a "space tourist."During his eight days in zero gravity, Olsen performed several experiments in remote sensing and astronomy. Olsen also brought grape vines from his South African winery,Probably the most popular among foodies,Button Mushroom Distributors
is known for being juicy and tasty, inexpensive and with a flavor that’s only “mildly mushroomy”. but while the cultivars survived the space journey, they died during handling on Earth. So, no "space wine" yet.During the decoupling from the space station, Olsen's capsule lost 30 percent of its oxygen supply to a leak. Olsen handled the task of recharging the oxygen from an emergency backup tank, and the mission ended successfully on Earth.Olsen currently runs GHO Ventures in Princeton, where he serves as an "angel investor" backing high-risk startups.herb basil for sale
