Structure Overturn

        When I put it on the ground it reminds a vessel. Interesting.
        In Japan "to paint" a painting and "to write" a text is indicated through the same word 「かく」("Kaku"). And before "Kaku" was separated on two meanings (related to painting and text) by two different characters it was indicating the same concept and signified the process of creating a pattern similar to those on the Jōmon period vessels. It is clear already from this linguistic fact that initially painting and sculpture were not separated in Japan. This new work of mine is created based on this the most ancient "Kaku" as it is in Jōmon vessels.
        While erasing the borderline between painting and sculpture and merging "Kaku" (as "to paint") and "Kaku" (as "to carve") I bring the art work to its source and create the new links between the ideas that were separated in the course of the history.

製作中の作品です。地面に置くと器のような感じがして面白いです。
        　日本で絵を描くことや文字を書くことはすべて「かく」といいますが、漢字で意味が分化するまでは「かく」はひとつの概念で、縄文土器などをひっかいて模様をかく行為を示していました。少なくとも日本では絵画と彫刻は本来同じ概念だったことが言葉から分かります。この新しい作品が一番古い概念の「かく」によって作られた縄文土器のような器形になったことにも必然性があるのかもしれません。
        　絵画と彫刻の境界線をうち消す様に、「描く（かく）」行為と「掻く（かく）/彫る」行為を統合してしまう行為と作品は象徴化の原始に立ち返るものであると同時に、様々な概念に分裂してしまった概念を新たにつなぎ合わせるものであると思います。

私、田附 楠人は「THE ONE PAINTINGS / 統合的絵画」

と題して松濤のギャラリエアンドウでの初個展を開催することになりました。
いままで海外のアートフェア出品や展示を中心に活動してきました。数年ぶりとなる日本での個展ではその経験を元にした新しい概念と技術の展開をお見せします。
「THE ONE PAINTINGS / 統合的絵画」ではアルミニウムのユニットを用いた絵画空間の研究とその過程で制作された作品をご覧いただけます。

   You are cordially invited to attend the Tazuke Cousteau solo exhibition "THE ONE PAINTINGS"  to be held at the  GALERIE ANDO. For the first time  "THE ONE PAINTINGS" will be presented in JAPAN and we are happy to use this opportunity for the solo show of large scale paintings related to further research of illusionary space of painting generated with the help of aluminum unit works.

---「統合的絵画」
 私の作品には透明のアクリル板を彫りその空洞へ絵の具を流しこみ、作品の裏側を表側として反転させた状態で提示するという全く独自の技法が用いられている。それはつまり絵画の世界に居ながら、絵画の「表」/「裏」を転覆し、「彫刻」/「絵画」の間の境界線を取り去り、ネガ/ポジの位置にあると思われていた様々な概念を統合的に一つの作品として成立させるということである。
 今回の「統合的絵画」ではその考え方を作品のフォーマットにまで広げた展示を行う。その作品は絵画の観念上の最小単位であるdotでもあり、全てを包括する円でもある。それは時間経過に伴う筆致を最小単位まで解体し制作のはじめから終わりまでのすべての行為と構造を現前させていることを示し、あらゆる概念や色彩は全て等しい価値を持つ存在として共存することを示す。

 "THE ONE PAINTINGS"
In my work, I use a completely original technique that involves carving a transparent acrylic board, pouring paint into the resulting cavities and , then displaying the backside of it As the result of this process I, while staying in the world of painting, create one work that brings together opposite like “positive” and “negative” concepts: subverting the front and the back , removing the boundary between sculpture and painting.
"THE ONE PAINTINGS" is an exhibition that extends this thinking to the format of a work of art. The work is also a dot, which is the smallest unit in the notion of painting, as well as a circle that encompasses all. This brakes the brushstrokes over time to the minimum unit and reveals all the actions and structures of creation from start to finish, showing that all colors and concepts coexist as beings of equal value.

We are glad to announce the start of our collaboration with Pantone Hotel and have decided to mark the beginning of our partnership with the two days exhibition and the vernissage on the roof top terrace with 360 degrees view on the centre of Brussels.
Situated in cosy Saint-Gilles with numerous art nouveau buildings and indie galleries, Pantone is paying a great deal of attention to its interior design with the emphasis on colours, the principle its name (“Pantone” – well known system for matching colours) brings in forefront.

On April 7th “Scratch/Thread” will invade the whole 8th floor of the building occupying its white cube type of rooms and stretching to the open terraces while enveloping both sides of the roof. It is an attempt to transform the space using aesthetic key-elements in the work of two Japanese artists: action of carving or eventual trace of a scratch in paintings of Cousteau Tazuke and stretched or suspended threads in installation of Akane Yorita.

While working on the borderline of painting and sculpture, Tazuke carves acrylic planes, paints them with vibrant colours and then exposes their back side. As a result, he brings the third dimension and engages a strong tactile feeling in the process of viewing paintings. Scratch here is a formative element that creates a line, but in the same time a physical mark in our perception of the work.

Meanwhile, Yorita follows her line by using threads to create suspended installations of a delicate nature and always in light motion. Her artworks change its shape with the breath of wind, while inviting the viewer to enter and be touched by her net-work.

In the upcoming show the line of Yorita’s thread will meet with the line of Tazuke’s scratch and although in two different media they create synthesis following and transforming each other. “Scratch/Thread” Exhibition generates on the roof of Pantone a semi-transparent cocoon we invite our guests to step in, while enjoying from high above the city view of Brussels.
