佐渡紀行 [2019]（７[終]）ときの森公園：佐渡島と言えば、絶滅危惧種の朱鷺（とき）の生息地としてかつては知られていたが、日本産の朱鷺は２００３年に最後の一羽が死んでしまっている。現在は、この、ときの森公園を始めとする数か所で、中国から寄贈された朱鷺による繁殖が試みられている。小生は、佐渡島滞在中の最終日、２０１９年４月１３日のこの公園を訪れ、剥製として保存されている日本産朱鷺や、生きている朱鷺を見てきた。この日の午後、佐渡汽船のおけさ丸に乗って、新潟に向かった。（Trip to Sado Is. 2019 [Part VII<fin>]: The island of Sado used to be known as a habitat of Nipponia nippon, or Japanese crested ibis--TOKI in Japanese. Regrettably, the last TOKI of Japanese origin--long designated as endangered species--deceased in 2003. Since then, experts have been attempting to breed TOKI donated from China at several locations in Japan, including TOKI-Forest Park as featured in this post. I visited the park on April 13--the last day of my stay on the island back in 2019. I had opportunity to see stuffed TOKI of Japanese origin as well as living ones in the cage. I departed from the island late in the afternoon of the same day on board a ferry boat of Sado Steam Ship Co. for Niigata.)
