商船三井フェリー、さんふらわあ「ふらの」、初代と二代目：前回は、昨年十月に初めて利用した津軽海峡フェリーを取り上げたが、今回話題にするのは、小生が首都圏との往復に利用することが多い商船三井フェリーのさんふらわあ。その中でも、「ふらの」という名の船舶に触れたい。小生が「ふらの」に初めて乗ったのは、2014年8月21日。札幌駅前のバスターミナルから高速バスを利用し、苫小牧港から茨城県の大洗港への船旅の後に、大洗からバスを乗り継いで東京までの通し切符で、最安では9900円で行ける「パシフィックストーリー」という名称の切符を利用した。この時は、夏の繁忙期だったので、若干チケット代は高かったと記憶しているが、それでも飛行機よりは格安であり、時間に余裕のある人には御勧めの交通手段である。この時利用した「ふらの」は、2017年5月11日に引退したが、その二日後に二代目「ふらの」が就航し、小生はその直後、5月17日に搭乗した。ここに、初代と二代目の「ふらの」を写した画像を掲げる。残念ながら、初代「ふらの」の内装を撮影した写真はないが、現在就航している二代目「ふらの」の見事な内部は幾つかアルバムに残っていた。（Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. ferry boat FURANO--retired and active ships: The previous post featured a ferry boat crossing the Tsugaru Strait--a service I used for the first time last October. Featured in this post is a ferry boat service I have used quite often for traveling between Hokkaido and the Tokyo Metropolitan area; in particular, I focus on the FURANO, one of the ships owned by Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd., which operates this service. I boarded the FURANO for the first time on August 21, 2014. In that occasion, I purchased a ticket that allowed passenger to travel [1] from Sapporo to Tomakomai--where a ferry port is located--by bus, [2] voyage from Tomakomai to Oh-arai--destination port of the ferry in Ibaragi Prefecture to the north of Tokyo--by Mitsui O.S.K. ferry, and [3] bus ride from Oh-arai to Tokyo. The cheapest rate of this connecting ticket, named "Pacific Story," is 9900 yen [ca. 75 dollars], bu the rate I paid at the time was probably a little higher since it was the summer peak period. Still, I recommend this ticket for those who do not mind traveling by slow-moving transportations. The company retired this FURANO on May 11, 2017. Yet, a new ship named FURANO made its debut two days later. I got on board this new FURANO on May 17 the same year.
