北海道最北端への旅（７）礼文島北部、岬めぐり：昨年十月十二日、礼文島滞在二日目は、朝早いバスで北部へ。まず向かったのは、鬼の角の様になっている礼文島北部の東側の角にあたる金田ノ岬。しかし、そこは標識が一本立っているだけで、何の変哲もない場所で、がっかり。そこから鬼の頭の天辺辺りに相当し、二つの岬を同時に望める船泊地区まで歩き、またバスに乗り、西側の角であるスコトン岬へ。ここは、景勝地で四十年前に礼文島を訪れた際も、観光バスで行った場所でした。そこから徒歩で海岸線を一路南下し、ゴロタ岬へ。快晴の空の下、海外線の景色は素晴らしく、更には隣の利尻島だけでなく遠く樺太を望むことができました。（Trip to the northernmost of Japan's northernmost island[7]: On October 12 last year, i.e., the second day of my stay on the Rebun Island, I caught an early bus bound for the island's northern part, which is shaped like devil's head with two horns. My first destination was the Cape Kaneda, which corresponds to the eastern horn of the "devil's head," but was disappointed to find nothing special or spectacular in the area except a sign post. I then walked to the area called Funadomari, which corresponds to the top of the "devil's head." From that location, I could see both "horns." Another bus ride took mefto the western "horn" named Cape Sukoton. This was my second visit to this cape since my first one nearly forty years ago. In contrast with the first occasion, in which I toured around the island in a group tour on a sight-seeing bus, this time I walked extensively. The next destination was the Cape Gorota. On my way to that cape and at the cape itself, I could see under a fine weather specutacular scenes of the coastlines as well as the neighboring Rishiri Island, and even Sakhalin, a part of Russia.)
