the third annual dance parade, 3,791 dancers will perform in the
streets of Manhattan, dancing in 55 genres--including African,
Algerian, Ballet/Ethnic, Ballroom, Belly Dance, Caporales, Cumbia,
Disco, Ecstatic, Folkloric, Greek, Hip-Hop, Hooper, House, Hustle and

Swing, Tap Dance, Techno, Tinku, Tribal, West Coast Swing, and Zydeco.
After gathering between 27th and 28th between Broadway and Sixth
Avenue, The Parade will kick off at 1 pm. Then we will boogie our way
down Broadway, hula, swing and irish step our way past Union Square and
into University Place. At Eighth Street we will Salsa, Tango and Waltz
East into Saint Marks Street. Our House, Techno and Disco floats will
have afternoon shoppers wigglin as they watch us get down in the heart
of the East Village. A straight shot from there brings us to DanceFest
in Tompkins Square Park.
Dancefest starts after the parade ends, with free dance performances,
lessons, and a dance party in Tompkins Square Park, starting at 4:30
p.m.
This terrific event will help heighten public awareness and
appreciation of this singularly moving art form. New York has been the
birthplace of dance styles such as salsa and tap, and we are delighted
to host such a vibrant celebration of rhythmic movement.
Location: Tompkins Square Park: 27th and 28th between Broadway and Sixth Avenue
