昔、１０年以上前かなあ・・・
日本語で「セレブ」という言葉を聞いて、
意味がわからなくて相当悩んだことがありました。
その「セレブ」という言葉は英単語の
"celebrity" から来ているのかなあと最初に思ったのですが、
一般の人が自分のブログの中で
「わたしはセレブ」とかいったりしていたので、非常に混乱しました。
どこで使われている「セレブ」という言葉を見ても
意味がわからない！想像さえつかない！
"celebration" でもなさそうだし、いったいなんなんだろう？
もしかしたらまったくの日本語？
「競れ部」？「背レ武」？「世霊無」？・・・？？？
どう考えてもわからない！
結局わたしは半年くらい悩んだ挙句、
弟に聞いて初めてその意味を知ったのですが、
「そんなんわかるか～っ！」って思いましたね。（笑）
この "celebrity" と同じように、
なぜか元の言葉と全然違う意味になってしまった
日本語英語のような言葉は他にも結構ありますよね。
"celebrity" というのは英語では有名人のことを言います。
マスメディアなどで多く取り上げられ、
世に顔や存在の知れた人たちのことですね。
ちなみにウィキペディアでは
"Celebrity" についてこう説明されています。
Celebrity is the fame and public attention accorded by the mass media to individuals or groups or, occasionally, animals, but is usually applied to the persons or groups of people (celebrity couples, families, etc.) themselves who receive such a status of fame and attention. 英語だと日本の「セレブ」とは全然違うので注意しましょう。
"I'm a celebrity." ・・・なんて言ってしまわないように（笑）
