Middleport surgery and pharmacy much needed
WE HAVE for a long time requested a new GP surgery and pharmacy in ever since the old one at Trubshawe Cross closed many years ago.
So, well done to Jackie Brindley and Karen Broadhurst from Duncalf Street for getting 200 signatures on a petition to site the surgery on the old school site in instead of their street that's about 10 per cent of the community of , Longport and Dalehall.
I do agree that the new surgery needs careful planning and they are right to be concerned about the impact on their lives. But, consider if there woolrich outlet online are 16 windows in the building and Ms Brindley says that eight would be facing her house across an enclosed site and wider road than Morton Street and Woolrich Street and would detract from her privacy and light, then the closer proximity of the houses on Morton and Woolrich streets to the twostorey building is surely going to impact on the lives of residents on these streets. Also, long opening hours of the surgery (8am8pm) will have an effect on their lives as well.
Not only will the old school site be utilised for this new building but also the gardens at the front, which were laid out over spaccio woolrich bologna 20 years ago when a row of terraced houses were demolished. It would be a shame to lose the mature trees and shrubs. We are already in danger of losing the other garden on Woolrich Street because outline planning permission has been granted to SS Thermoplastics for housing to be built there.
The traffic situation on Newport Lane is bad as it is used as a rat run and there are huge outlet woolrich bologna lorries accessing the south end, as well as countless driving schools that use the area for lessons. There are already 72 newly built flats on Sunny Bank, new housing for the Slater Street area (when we get a masterplan), new housing and a mill conversion on Millvale Street, new housing on the Woods and Dalehall Mill cleared sites on Newport Lane.
With a surgery for 6,000 patients the traffic situation is going to be even worse, and take into consideration that Newport Lane is the main walk way for children attending local schools on the other side of Newcastle Street, chaos.
Lets hope 100 per cent of the community turns out when the public consultation takes place about the siting of this surgery and that our MP and local councillors support the people of as fervently as they have supported the residents of Duncalf Street with their objections. That is if any are raised from Morton Street/Woolrich Street who knows.
We really need this surgery and a pharmacy in so lets hope the powers that be get it in the right place.
