IELTS Writing Task 1 General Training Letter 48 with Model Answer

LETTER 48: Writing Task 1 You should spend about 20 minutes on this task.

There is a new swimming complex that will built in the town.

Write a letter to one of the residents. In your letter

  • Tell him/her how important the swimming complex is

  • Give your opinion whether it should be placed in town centre or outside of town

  • Explain why another locations are not good

Write at least 150 words.

You do NOT need to write any addresses.

Begin your letter as follows:

Dear Sir or Madam,

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing to call you in for a discussion regarding the planned swimming complex to be built in our town.

The construction of the swimming complex aims to provide all residents a fitness facility that they can use for free whenever they want. This is very important for everybody’s health.

I agree with the local government wanting to build the complex within the town so that it is easily accessible to everyone. This is also part of the senior citizen welfare program of the country and placing it outside of town will make it difficult for our elder citizens to visit.

Aside from this, I don’t think putting it elsewhere will be smart since the planned location is in the middle of town and beside the senior citizens building. Any farther would cause people to feel lazy to come and would be costly since public transport is needed.

Please let us know what you think

Yours faithfully,

Mark Higgins
