Over the past few years, tourism has never failed to get people’s attention. It has been said that visitors of other countries should follow its customs and behavior. I somewhat agree with this opinion for the following reasons.
ここ数年、旅行業は人々の注目を集める産業として一度も失敗していません。他の国からの旅行者は、その国の習慣や振る舞いに従うものと言われています。私はこれらの意見にいくつかの点で賛成です。
Firstly, there is no doubt that visitors need to adapt to the customs while staying in a foreign country. In fact, if a person learns about the tradition of the country, it will help the person feel confident in communicating with native people. More importantly, it also avoids conflicts with other people. Moreover, it is easy for travelers to adapt the new traditional style if they obtain important information about the country before traveling. For example, when a person traveling to another country is knowledgeable about customs and culture like taking off shoes before going inside the house and being silent during meals, the master of the house will feel happy, satisfied and will always welcome him or her wholeheartedly. Therefore, it is good to learn the local customs to maintain a good relationship with people.
最初に、外国に滞在している間、旅行者は彼らの習慣に適合しなければならないという点に何の間違いもありません。実際、私たちは他国の文化を習います。そしてそれは、その国の人々とコミュニケションを取る際にとても役立ちます。より重要なことに、他の人々との対立を避けます。さらに、もし旅行前にその国についての重要な情報を得ることができれば、新しい文化に適合することは旅行者にとって簡単なものとなります。例えば、他の国へ旅行に行くとき、家の中に入る前に靴を脱ぐ、食事中は静かにする、などの慣習や文化についての知識があれば、家主は嬉しく、とても良い人たちだと思い、いつでも心から受け入れてくれるでしょう。ですので、現地の慣習を学ぶことは、人々と良い関係を築くうえでとても良いものとなります。
Secondly, many people say that residents of foreign countries should be hospitable towards visitors. However, sometimes, visitors and natives are unable to understand each other because of language barrier and cultural differences. With this, conflicts arise for native people think that visitors want to break their customs. On the other hand, natives of each country should also accept and understand that visitors are not perfect for they can also commit mistakes. Sometimes, visitor tends to forget the customs of the country. Natives should also be tolerant and receptive towards visitors.
次に、その国の住民は訪問者をもてなすべきだ、と多くの人は言います。しかしながら、ときどき、訪問者や地元の人々はお互いを理解することができません。なぜなら、言葉の壁や文化の違いがあるからです。これらの理由により、対立や食い違いが起こり、現地の人々は、訪問者は彼らの慣習を破りたいと思っていると、考えてしますのです。一方、各国の人々は、それらを受け入れ、訪問者は間違いを犯すかもしれない、完璧でないと、受け入れるべきなのです。ときどき、その国の慣習を忘れてしまいがちです。ですので現地の人々は、旅行者に寛容で、尊敬の意をもって接するべきなのです。
In conclusion, both visitors and hosts should welcome cultural differences. Also, people who go to foreign places should be eager to learn new practices and customs to avoid misunderstandings and to have fun while staying in a different place.
結論として、旅行者も受け入れ側も、文化の違いを受け入れなければなりません。同様に、外国に行く人々は、誤解を避けるために新しい慣習や習慣を学び、異なる場所に滞在している間はそれを一生懸命楽しむべきなのです。
