蝙蝠の環境貢献に注目を、国連 （Year of the Bat）

【9月23日 AFP】国連（UN ）は22日、「国際コウモリ年（Year of the Bat ）」

の開始を宣言した。

コウモリについての肯定的な広報活動を通じて、コウモリが授粉や種子

の分散において果たしている役割への理解が深まることを目指す。

　国連環境計画（United Nations Environment Programme 、UNEP ）は声

明で、「昆虫を食べて害虫駆除に役立っている欧州のコウモリや、熱帯

雨林の維持に役立っている熱帯地方のコウモリなど、コウモリは幅広い

環境で不可欠な生態系サービスを提供している」と述べた。

Bats of the genus Pteropus, belonging to the Megachiroptera

sub-order, are the largest bats in the world.

They are commonly known as the Fruit Bats or Flying Foxes
