Space Odditylyrics David Bowie
music David Bowie
Ground Control to Major Tom
Ground Control to Major Tom
Take your protein pills and put your helmet on
Ground Control to Major Tom
Commencing countdown, engines on
Check ignition and may God's love be with you
Ten, Nine, Eight, Seven, Six, Five,
Four, Three, Two, One, Liftoff
This is Ground Control to Major Tom
You've really made the grade
And the papers want to know whose shirts you wear
Now it's time to leave the capsule if you dare
"This is Major Tom to Ground Control
I'm stepping through the door
And I'm floating in a most peculiar way
And the stars look very different today
For here
Am I sitting in a tin can
Far above the world
Planet Earth is blue
And there's nothing I can do
Though I'm past one hundred thousand miles
I'm feeling very still
And I think my spaceship knows which way to go
Tell my wife I love her very much she knows"
Ground Control to Major Tom
Your circuit's dead, there's something wrong
Can you hear me, Major Tom?
Can you hear me, Major Tom?
Can you hear me, Major Tom?
Can you....
"Here am I floating round my tin can
Far above the Moon
Planet Earth is blue
And there's nothing I can do."

Bowie wrote this after seeing the 1968 Stanley Kubrick movie 2001: A Space Odyssey. "Space Oddity" is a play on the phrase "Space Odyssey," and the title does not appear in the lyrics. The song tells the story of Major Tom, a fictional astronaut who cuts off communication with Earth and floats into space.1969年發行的Space Oddity這張單曲,一舉躍上英國音樂排行榜的第五名,可說是David Bowie的成名曲。

Ground Control to Major Tom
Take your protein pills and put your helmet on用平淡的嗓音唱著這開頭的一小段感覺起來就像是真的冷靜沉著的指揮人員一樣,同時也小小聲的倒數發動引擎,接著反差似的,太空人成功進到天空,慢慢激昂的旋律就像是對這成功的喜悅一樣,歌詞就像是敘說著一個故事一樣,除了地面指揮中心與太空人的互相呼叫之外,沒有任何一段重複的歌詞。
Ground Control to Major Tom
Your circuit's dead, there's something wrong
Can you hear me, Major Tom?
Can you hear me, Major Tom?
Can you hear me, Major Tom?
Can you....
"Here am I floating round my tin can
Far above the Moon
Planet Earth is blue
And there's nothing I can do."
Can you hear me, Major Tom?",一直到最後漸漸失去訊號,故事又轉向太空人,平靜的旋律可以感覺到Major Tom似乎了解了些什麼,又或者是被月球或是什麼未知的事物給迷惑了,安詳的享受著這寧靜無比的外太空。
In 1980, Bowie released a follow-up to this called "Ashes To Ashes," where Major Tom once again makes contact with Earth. He says he is happy in space, but Ground Control comes to the conclusion that he is a junkie.
