繼前一天在參議院軍事委員會發出中國可能在6年內侵犯台灣的預警後，美國印太司令部司令戴維森上將星期三(3月10日)再次強調，未來5到10年台灣將是中國軍事行動的“頭號”目標。與此同時，台灣軍方的數據顯示，為加強應對中國軍機侵入台灣空域，台灣空軍去年增加了1000小時的飛行時數。
在眾議院軍事委員會就美國在印太地區的國家安全挑戰舉行的聽證會上，海軍上將菲利普·戴維森(Philip Davidson)重複他關於中國可能對台動武的警告。田納西州共和黨眾議員斯科特·德加雷斯(Scott DesJarlais, R-TN)問到，“未來5到10年，你認為中國侵略或軍事行動可能的首要目標是什麼？”戴維森做出上述答复。
戴維森說，基於中國公開及長時間來的言論，“尤其是在習近平主席的任期內，我會說台灣是第一個(目標)。”
德加雷斯提到，中國外交部長王毅幾天前對美國發出“不要玩火”的警告，白宮發言人莎琪隨即回應說，“美國對台承諾堅如磐石”，他問戴維森在印太司令部3年多來如何評估中國與台灣的關係。
戴維森說，中國廢除香港“一國兩制”的做法使台灣產生高度警覺，以至於台灣兩黨在2019年末的競選期間都必須強調他們不支持“一國兩制”的立場。
“我認為那使台灣在地區的地位更為強固，所有地區其他國家也注意到中國對香港極具破壞性的做法，那也造成許多關係為之冷卻。”
軍委會主席亞當·史密斯(Adam Smith, D-WA)在聽證會的問答開始後，第一個問題就問戴維森，美國如何防範中國攻打台灣。
戴維森說，美國《2021年國防授權法》第1251條款的“太平洋威懾倡議”(PDI)即是為了強化美國作戰能力、威懾中國在印太地區軍事行動的重要倡議。
他說，依據這個立法，美國將以5大支柱提升戰力威懾中國可能的行動，包括強化關島防衛及美軍聯合作戰殺傷力、強化第一及第二島鏈防禦、加強對盟友提供軍售以提升聯合作戰
能力、加強演習能力創新，以及強化聯合後勤補給支援能力等，美國將和盟友從這幾大方面加強合作，提高對中國的軍事威懾，目的是要中國的軍事決策者理解，武力行動的代價太高。

近來中國對台灣不斷增強的軍事壓力是美國參、眾兩院許多議員非常關注的問題。在前一天的參議院聽證會上，包括參議員蘇利文(Dan Sullivan, R-AK)、參議員斯科特(Rick Scott, R-FL)、參議員霍利(Josh Hawley, R-MO)及參議員布萊克本(Marsha Blackburn, R-TN)等人，都問戴維森關於美國如何協助台灣加強防衛能力、抵禦中國侵犯的問題。
在答复參議員蘇利文關於中國在台海地區軍事行動可能的“時間線”問題時，戴維森說，台灣是中國所有地區野心的第一位，“這個威脅顯然將在這10年間發生，事實上就是未來6年內。”
參議員布萊克本關注美國如何增加與台灣雙邊演習，或是與地區其他國家多邊演習，以及如何協助台灣軍事專業發展的問題，戴維森表示，美國有幫助台灣進一步發展軍事專業的機會，在一些議題上美國可以協助台灣增強防衛能力，例如如何使後備部隊有更好反應能力的問題。
至於軍事演習的部分，戴維森說，印太司令部每年都提供台灣主要的漢光演習的支援，包括“協助提供觀察員以便理解台灣如何思考他們的防衛、他們的演習包括哪些項目，以及這些演習對增進台灣的防衛構想有何幫助等，同時也深化我們彼此的關係。”
戴維森也在回應參議員斯科特關於他提出《防止台灣遭侵略法》即是為了防止中國對台灣動武的問題時表示，美國的戰略模糊政策40年來維持台海地區動態環境當前的現狀，他認為美國應該定期審視政策，美國有遵守《台灣關係法》的義務，對台軍售也應該持續進行。
對於戴維森關於中國將在“6年內”侵台的預警，中國政府認為這是在“渲染”中國軍事威脅。
中國外交部發言人趙立堅星期三在例行記者會上說，美方一些人“不斷借台灣問題渲染'中國軍事威脅'，實質上是為美國自身增加軍費、擴張軍力、干涉本地區事務尋找藉口。”
中國加大對台灣周邊空域的侵擾也使台灣增加應對成本。台灣軍方一份報告說，為應對中國解放軍侵擾台灣空域的挑戰，台灣空軍去年增加了1000小時的飛行時間。
台灣國防部在星期三提交立法院國防外交委員會的一份報告中說，自2020年1月到11月，台灣空軍飛行總時數為4萬5500小時，包括1萬1800任務小時及3萬3700訓練小時，與2017年到2019年平均3萬2700飛行小時相較，增加了1000個訓練飛行小時，增加幅度約3%。
除了飛行小時增加外，報告還說，中國解放軍去年9月開始增加對台灣空域的入侵，其中97%發生在台灣西南部防空識別區，由於應對這種侵擾增加了額外的維修及油料成本，軍方從去年10月開始調整應對共機騷擾的方式，如果解放軍以慢速機侵擾，空軍即改以C-130運輸機或P-3C反潛機應對。
