In order to practice reading, writing, spelling, and phonics the students in one of the ESL 1 classes yesterday practiced the Short U CVC Words.

"Rug" was particuarly challenging, due to the "r" sound. So we spent extra time and focus on that word. "Mug," "tub," "gum," and "sub" were all new words. While "cup," "sun," "hut," and "cut" were all good for review and general practice. CVC words are also very good for sounding out words and making sure students understand the exact (and different) sounds that certain letters can and do make.
