When students first learn to write English words, they start with very simple words that are either 1, 2, or 3 letters long. Words that are 3 letters long are called CVC words (Consonant - Vowel - Consonant). It is a simple pattern and most of these words belong to word families, further helping students learn to read and write the words.
In the ESL 1 class, we introduce simple rhyming words to help with phonics and basic recognition. Training the ears to pick up on these phonetic sounds and figuring out word families can help later on with reading and writing skills.
