Last Thursday and Friday were the Eiken Grade 3 and Friday ESL 3 Classes, respectifully.

In the Eiken Grade 3 class, we finished doing the Listening Exam and then dived back into the Fill-in-the-Blank Vocabulary section of the Reading portion of the exam. Here the students learned that "play" has two meanings, the verb meaning (ex. I played with my friends at the park) and the noun meaning (ex. The girl acted in the play.).

The picture of the "play" drawn on the whiteboard got a good laugh from the students.

In the Friday ESL 3 class we first started off with reviewing some basic prefixes (re-, pre-, and mis-).

Then we went over past, present, and future tense.

After that, we practiced identifying fact and opinion based sentences in English. The fact based sentences were easy to spot, but the opinion based ones were a bit tricky. To help with that, certain key words were pointed out ("I think...", "should not...", "must," and so forth).

Finally, the last thing we looked at in the class was how a sentence is created and structured in English, or sentence creation.

The grammar we practiced identifying was that of "subject and predicate," and we also learned about the different names for parts of a sentence, and how to break those parts up (articles, pronouns, direct objects, and more).
