I was delighted when Hiro suggested us having an online ‘Cultural Chat’ in September.
In the good old normal days when we co-presented 100 editions of Trad Japan on NHK and co-authored our bilingual DHC books, we spent countless hours doing exactly that — having lively chats about our respective ‘island country’ cultures, both their similarities and their dissimilarities.
Those discussions often took place in izakaya, so it seems appropriate to include some eating and drinking customs as one of our themes this time, even on a Sunday morning!
We also want to consider cultural aspects of the Covid pandemic, such as interesting global behavioral and language points — food for thought indeed.
And there will be much more... I can’t wait to meet you all on Zoom!
