In 1991, American journalist James Faros wrote in The Washington Post that the editorial used by the Economist in reporting some news events contradicted the event itself. Faros said that by chance, he had just read Robert Wade's book, Governing the Markets. The detailed study cites plenty of evidence, effectively coming to almost the opposite conclusion that East Asian governments have repaired heavily and directly benefited industry, far beyond anything that "market forces" could do. Mr Faros says he knows more about the book: The Economist had just commented on it and misdescribed its information, almost entirely in the way of government officials. Michael Lewis, author of Poker Liars, said the anonymous cover of the Economist author is an important part of its omniscient position, among other reasons, because it masks the extreme youth of most employees. That means the magazine was written by young people who pretended to be old people.
