震災からの教訓を英語で書いてみました

今年もいろいろありました。今年一番の出来事は何と言っても東日本大震災ですね。
英作文2のクラスで毎回宿題のような感じでレポート提出が求められました。
震災からの教訓について書いたことがあったので、少し手直してアップします。（日本語訳あり）

これが今年最後の更新になりそうです。皆様良いお年を。

3.11 earthquake has taught and is still teaching us lessons. 
I was at my office when it occurred. I spent a night at the office. Luckily, we had AEON, convenience stores and restaurants, so we could take care of the foods. My company allowed us to have a nap at one of the meeting rooms. The cardboards were laid, so we could lie down, but we needed to take care of the blankets by ourselves. I used my own coat. Unfortunately it didn’t cover my knees and toes, I wished I had emergency blanket. Now I bring one with me always because it is as big as a pocket tissue. 


Some food storage helps us. My family had some, so we didn’t have to do much shopping. I think now we can work on to store some foods. I was advised to plan wisely and be consistent.

Someone said ‘Don’t forget to help people if you survive.’ 
I got to participate in volunteer tour to Iwate at the beginning of September. Our guide told us how he survived. He barely escaped from Tsunami. His work place was utterly damaged and he and all his colleagues lost the job. He said he could not do anything at first, but he decided to help people around him. 

These are the main lessons for me now. There will be more to learn later. Something we don’t imagine do happen, but we need to make the best effort to protect ourselves and help others.

3.11の震災から今もなお、教訓を得ている。
地震が起きたとき、自分の職場にいて、職場で夜を明かした。AEONやコンビニエンスストア、レストランがあったので食べることは何とかなった。会社が会議室で仮眠を取れるようにしてくれた。床にダンボールは敷かれていたが、毛布は自分で手配しなければならなかった。私はコートを掛けたが、膝と足にかからなかったので、エマージェンシーブランケットがあったらいいなと思った。ポケットティッシュと同じくらいの大きさなので、今は常に持ち歩いている。

いくらの食料を貯蔵しておくといい。我が家にはいくらか蓄えがあったので、あまり買い物をしなくて済んだ。今は貯蔵をしてもいいと思う。賢く計画し、定期的に行うようにとの助言を受けた。

誰かが「生き延びたら人を助けることを忘れないようにしなさい。」と言っていた。
9月初めに岩手にボランティアに行く機会があった。ガイドの方がどうやって生き残ったかを話してくれた。彼は間一髪津波から逃れた人だった。職場が壊滅的な被害を受けたので、彼も同僚も職を失ってしまった。最初は何もできなかったと言っていたが、周りにいた人たちを助けることにしたとのことだ。

今のところ、これが私にとっての主な教訓だ。後になればもっと出てくるだろう。想定外のことは起こるものだが、自分の身を守り、人を助けるためにできる限りの努力が必要だ。
