シカゴは、８つのカテゴリーの投票結果を集計した２００９年版ランキングで首位となった。アンケートの項目は、住みやすさ、スポーツと娯楽、文化、ファッション、デート事情、健康、権力と資金、豊かな暮らしの８つ。また、ランキングの算出には、失業率や所得の伸び、男性に対する独身女性の比率、ビール１の値段などの要素も考慮された。
アスクメン・ドットコムのジェームズ・バシル編集長は「ここ数年、男性の間でシカゴの人気が高まっている。近隣の環境が良く、美しい湖もあり、芸術とスポーツのバランスが取れいてることなどが理由だ。また、オバマ米大統領に関連して、市民が誇りを再確認している」と指摘した。
景況悪化は、リストの上位に入ったロンドン（４位）やニューヨーク（６位）、パリ（１０位）などの都市に悪影響を与えたかもしれないが、そうした都市の人気は依然高いという。
バルセロナは、食べ物やビーチが人気で、常に住みたい都市の上位に選ばれており、２００９年版でも２位。活気のあるレストランや芸術祭などが好まれて、サンフランシスコが３位となった。
日本の都市では、東京が１４位に入った。
送別会
週末に医局の送別会がありました。
一次会も終わりに差しかかったころ、私は結構ほろ酔い気分でした。
アナウンスで、

ほろ酔いでしたが、しっかりと聞こえました。
