大方の歌詞の和訳は
この曲は
"livin' on a prayer"
というフレーズなんですが、
live on〜
というのは
〜にすがって生きる
というような意味があるそうなんですが、
2人は何にすがって生きているんでしょうか？
それは
livin' on の後のprayer
という事になるんですが
prayer＝"祈る人"なんですけど
歌詞はprayerではなく
a prayerとなってますから
一人の祈る人となりまして
そうすると
それは誰なんだとなりますが、
僕は"自分の為に祈ってくれる人"
つまりは
トミーにとってのジーナ、
ジーナにとってはトミー
を指していると思います。
故にサビ部分の最初のフレーズ

we're halfway thereは
主語が "we"ですから
トミーとジーナ2人で
"俺達(私達)はまだ道半ば"と訳せますが
livin' on a prayerは聴いてる人が
トミー目線で聴いていれば
"俺は(こんな俺の為に祈ってくれる)ジーナ(の存在)を
頼りに生きてるのさ"
と、訳せますし、
ジーナ目線で聴いていれば
"私(アタイ？)は(私の為に祈ってくれる)トミー(の存在)を頼りに生きてるの！"
と、それぞれの目線毎に
訳せるんではないかと…

色々と言葉が省略されるのは
よくある事ですが、
この曲については
聴く人がトミーとジーナ
どちらの目線に立って聴いても
大丈夫なように
ここは敢えて主語を置かなかったのでは
ないかと思います。
この曲は
恋人同士の2人が主人公なので
いわゆるラブソングの部類に
入るのかも知れませんが
恋する気持ちを
明るい曲にのせて軽やかに歌うのとは違って
非常にキツい時代を
お互いの愛情だけを糧に
逞しく逆境に抗う感じは
さすがボン・ジョヴィといった所
でしょうか…
