サンフランシスコ・ベイ･エリア San Francisco Bay Area
アメリカのカリフォルニア州のイメージは、太陽とビーチでしょう。サンフランシスコ・ベイ･エリアに出張で来る前に、あと十日間の天気予報を調べると以下の結果が出てきた。
Probably everyone has this image of sunshine and beaches when they think of California. Before I came here for my business trip, I checked the 10-day weather forecast and here is what I got.
晴天は毎日続いていて、さすがカリフォルニア。
Everyday was supposed to be sunny. This is California.
JALで成田から来た。出発するところ、成田も晴天だった。精神的に準備させるためかも。
I came on JAL from Narita. When I left Narita, the weather there was also sunny, in order to prep me for the trip, perhaps.
木曜日にお昼ごろ着いたらすぐ働いた。金曜日も。土曜日はやっと落ち着いた。妹の家で行われたホームパーティーに参加した。子供たちは2時間ぐらいプールで泳いで、そして皆一緒にバーベキューをやって、最後は楽しい夏を祝うアイスクリームケーキを食べた。
I arrived on Thursday around noon and started to work right away. Friday was work too. Came Saturday, I was finally able to relax. I went to my sister's to join a home party. The kids swam in the pool for about 2 hours. Then we had a barbecue. At the end, we shared an ice cream cake celebrating the good times of summer.
日曜日はロス・ガトス（スペイン語で猫たちという意味)という魅力のある小さい町にある公園を散歩した。池は綺麗で、見たら心は落ち着いてくる。
On Sunday, I took a walk in a park in a charming small town known as Los Gatos (which means Cats in Spanish). The lake in the park is beautiful and soothing.
鴨も全員出かけた。川にも芝生にも「鴨込み｣だった。
Even the ducks were out in forces. They swarmed both the stream and the field.
公園の中に独特な一時停止の標識があった。昼間でも太陽電池で閃光を発してた。歩行者だけにじゃなくて、ローラースケーターにも自転車乗りにも障害者にも注意させてた。
Inside the park I found a unique stop sign. Even during the day there were flashing lights powered by solar power. And it not only warns you of pedestrians but also rollerskaters, cyclists, and people in wheelchairs.
それから、子供向けの電車もあった。親も一緒に楽しめる。
Besides, there was a train for kids. But parents could ride along.
ベビーカー専用の駐車場も用意されて、ファミリーに優しい。
There was even parking for strollers. How family-friendly!
