Mississauga Khris Middleton Navy Jersey honours its fallen heroes
One of the largest services was held in Cooksville where several hundred members of the Royal Canadian Legion and the 845 Avro Arrow Air Cadets paraded along Dundas St. E. to the memorial in the grounds of St. John's Church.
With the Air Cadets lined up in ranks down one side of the cenotaph and community groups and police at the other, members of the Cooksville Legion led the onlookers in paying their respects to those men and women who had died in Canadian Khris Middleton Pink Jersey uniform .
Though conceived as a memorial to those who had died in the First World War, which began nearly a century ago, McCallion said that through the tireless work of the Royal Canadian Legion, Remembrance Day retained its importance today.
"I've been attending Armistice Day services, as you can imagine, Brandon Knight Pink Jersey for many, many years," she told the crowd. "What impresses me most is that the attendance is increasing instead of decreasing."
She added, "I've got to be proud as mayor of Mississauga to see all the young people here today."
With no surviving veterans left from the First World War and the numbers of those who fought in the Second World War dwindling, many of the speakers touched on the importance of including those who had served in more recent conflicts in Remembrance Day. It was a call that is especially appropriate this year, being the 60th anniversary of the end of the Korean War.
Dipika Damerla, MPP for Mississauga East Cooksville, said, "It is so much more important that we hang onto those memories, not just those who served in World War I and World War II but also in Korea and our soldiers who are today serving in Afghanistan."
She continued, "The true measure of our gratitude for these veterans is not just how we conduct ourselves on this day, but how we as a community, how we as a people, how we as a government treat our veterans the other 364 days."
Sunday morning also saw services being held by the Royal Canadian Legion branch in Malton and by the Army Navy and Air Force Veterans in Canada in Lakeview. At Celebration Square, the Toronto Scottish Regiment performed a Remembrance Day parade and service, which was attended by regiment veteran and former Mississauga mayor Ron Searle.
Remembrance Day commemorations continue Monday with the Royal Canadian Legion branches in Port Credit and Streetsville holding their services www.officialbasketballstore.com/brandon-knight-jersey and the City of Mississauga's official wreath laying taking place at the Veteran's Memorial on Celebration Square.
Schools throughout Peel will also be marking Remembrance Day with services. Among them, Streetsville Secondary School will hold a special assembly featuring a presentation from a Canadian solider and several classes will be taken to participate in the memorial at the cenotaph.
