17 The LORD has done what he purposed;
he has carried out his word,
which he commanded long ago;
Facing the Lord's judgment and chastisement, Jerusalem was told to weep. It was in order for Jerusalem to gain awareness of its sin, and move towards repentance. Jerusalem had to face its sins directly, accept it and mourn over it. It is the same for us. When we notice our own sins and its consequence, we need to notice its effect, its impact on others, bring it to the Lord, and repent.
